Utility Locating Project

OmniVueNDT’s Subsurface Engineering Division was contracted to conduct a utility locating survey at an active construction site. The goal was to accurately identify and map multiple underground utilities, including:

  • Main water lines

  • Natural gas lines

  • Fire water lines

  • Sanitary sewer lines

This utility mapping was essential for updating as-built records and ensuring safe excavation planning.

Methodology

To achieve precise subsurface detection, OmniVueNDT employed a combination of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, including:

Electromagnetic utility locators - for tracing conductive utilities

Fisher metal detectors - for detecting metallic components within buried infrastructure

Low-frequency Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) - for penetrating various subsurface materials and locating both metallic and non-metallic utilities

Results & Impact

All required utility lines were successfully identified, mapped and marked for construction reference. This proactive approach enhances worker safety, prevents costly utility strikes and supports efficient infrastructure planning.

OmniVueNDT remains committed to providing high-accuracy subsurface investigations, ensuring safe and efficient construction through advanced GPR and NDE/NDT methods.
