Reverse Engineering with GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar)
Clear Lake, Texas
Project Overview
OmniVueNDT was contracted to perform a structural assessment in a two-level parking garage in Clear Lake, Texas. The objective was to locate and map the rebar layout within the concrete slab and cross beams to support the design and fabrication of custom metal brackets. These brackets would provide reinforcement and structural stability to the existing framework.
GPR Scanning & Data Collection
To achieve high-precision results, OmniVueNDT utilized a high-resolution structure scanner capable of detecting small subsurface elements with exceptional accuracy. The GPR scan provided a detailed rebar layout, which was essential for determining proper bracket placement while avoiding interference with embedded reinforcement (See Picture 1).

Once the rebar configuration was identified, precise measurements were recorded and integrated into an AutoCAD drawing (See Picture 2). This data was then used to manufacture the custom metal brackets, ensuring a precise fit and optimal load distribution.

Engineering Benefits & Project Impact
By incorporating non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, OmniVueNDT provided critical data that helped:
Prevent structural damage by avoiding unintended rebar strikes during installation.
Enhance bracket design accuracy, reducing fabrication errors and material waste.
Improve installation efficiency, minimizing delays in the reinforcement process.
OmniVueNDT continues to support structural retrofitting and reverse engineering projects by delivering precise subsurface data for engineering design and construction planning.
